Make Your Spiritual Muscles Sore

Sore Muscles

For the last 2 months, every Tuesday and Thursday I get up at 5:30am to meet a wonderful group of women to exercise.  Boy, those first few days and weeks I was so sore.  I couldn’t move.  Once my body adjusted and became accustomed to this routine, there was an energy that I had.  It’s almost as though my body began craving more.  Could I do 3, 4, 5 days of exercise into my week?  So that’s what I’m going to do.  I’m going to add on my off days running and walking.  I’m going to listen to what my body wants.

Spiritual Muscles

How many of us do this spiritually?  Do you make it a daily routine to read the Word or does the Bible stay in the car all week only to come out on Sundays (Ouch!)? Just as we may exercise our body, we need to exercise our mind (Philippians 2:5) Read, read, read!  We have to become aware of all that God has for us, all that He has done for you and me.   How can you do that?  Exercise your mind everyday in His Word.

When you are struggling with a friend or family - Romans 8:31 – “If God be for me, who can be against me?”

Stressing out about finances – Philippians 4:6-7 – “Don’t be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God and the peace of God, which transcends all understanding , will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.

Wanting to give up – James 1:2-4 – “Consider it pure joy, my brothers, whenever you face trials of many kinds, because you know that the testing of your faith develops perseverance. Perseverance must finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything.

Mom’s, did you know that there is a scripture that says “Like mother, like daughter”?  Look it up Ezekiel 16:44.  But you have to read the whole chapter to understand if this is something good that was spoken or not.

My point is this even as we exercise our bodies or eat right; we have to do the same for our spirit.  We have to feed it.  And guess what?  Once we begin to feed it, it begins to grow and mature into all that God has called you and me to do!
