@stickyJesus Read-Along Chapter 8
I am so glad you have made it this far!! Seriously, it’s been a little busy for me this week, but I know we can keep this going! It’s been an AMAZING journey so far. We are on Chapter 8 and WOW! Let’s just say this chapter is eye opening to the ugly side of Social Media; the dark side of the Internet with pornography, infidelity, bullying, etc. It’s taking the scripture in Genesis 50:20 – What the enemy meant for evil, God will turn it over for good (paraphrase). So how can we let God turn it over for good?
Put on our cyberarmor.
First you have to do what Toni Birdsong and Tami Heim suggests-you have to get in the game. Become familiar of what we are up against.
More people will log on to blogs, Facebook and Twitter this Sunday than will go to church. More people will meet the person they are going to marry online than will likely meet at the church barbecue. And more people will share their joys, heartbreak, and revelations via status updates than will seek the help of a counselor or a pastor this year. @stickyJesus page 105
I am sure most of us have stories that we hear of others falling into “Social Media Sin”. But we have to resist the temptation. We have to continuously put that cyberarmor on over our mind and heart.
It’s never the hardware – the gun, the knife, the Internet – that causes a man to sin; it’s the heart. @stickyJesus page 111
I’ll leave you with this story. Wednesday afternoon I was talking with a Convention planner for an event in Nashville about some breakout sessions. This organization has been doing some research over the last three years and has seen a steady increase in divorce over rekindled past relationships on Facebook. My first thought was amazement which then in turn turned to anger. Anger at what the enemy has twisted into so many people’s minds.
It’s out there. It’s real. It’s time to make a difference.
Do you struggle with “Social Media Sin”? Know that God is in the restoring business.
What are some darts the enemy threw your way and realized it was your cyberarmor that saved you?
