From Success to Significance: On Finding the Purpose in Every Movement

There seems to be a common theme with women entering our Second Half of life – we all want to be strategic and intentional.  We want to be specific with what we are doing and why we are doing it. We want to go from success to a place of significance.

As adults, we have learned from our mistakes.  We have probably made some bad decisions or started some things yet never finished them.  So, we look at our Second Half and we tell ourselves, “the next move I make has to be on purpose.”  We don’t want to waste our time – we’ve done that already. Some of us need a change of scenery or a change of pace.  We evaluate ourselves and ask who are we today, finding, for most of us, that we are not the same person we were 30, 20, or even 5 years ago.

Because we want to be strategic and intentional with our next move, the next part of that common theme is that our volume of communication with God goes up.  We find ourselves asking Him about our direction.  We remind Him that He orders our steps, but we still yell back, “where the heck am I supposed to go?”  We question ourselves if we heard Him right and cancel his answers out because they don’t seem like the right fit for what He is asking.  Every day we ask, we kneel, we pray, and wonder what God, do you have for me next?

John 15:5 says – I am the Vine, you are the branches. If you remain in me and I in you, you will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing.

In that verse, we find our answer.  If we stay connected, if we stay rooted in Him, we will find our answer. We have to understand our timing is not God’s timing.  That our “ask” may seem like it is taking forever to get to our “what,” but that if we trust the Vine then we will eventually produce fruit.  Fruit that is full of intention, the right intention.  Fruit that is full of strategy.  Why wouldn’t you want that? Throughout our lives, we have learned what getting in the way looks like. We have watched ourselves hurry things along only to see them take longer than they needed to.

In this season of Second Half Living, let’s grab a hold of Him and not let go.  Let’s soak up every conversation, every Scripture, every knees bent moment and look for not the next move, but for the purpose in it.
