Simple Parenting Moments That Inspire

Yesterday we discussed the Value of Motherhood and how I wanted to write, what I think are three things God values most in our mothering.  One of them being Inspiration that we will talk about today. When I think of inspiration, I think of words like motivate or create.

Webster’s dictionary defines the word Inspire as to fill with influence; to fill or affect with a specified feeling or thought.

Part of our job as mothers is to inspire into our kid’s a sense of God’s presence. A sense of His purpose and influence in our everyday moments. Once they grasp His presence they will begin to see who they are and their potential in all that God has for them.

You might ask how am I supposed to do that? Let’s read Matthew 6:25-30:

25 “Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more important than food, and the body more important than clothes? 26 Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they? 27 Who of you by worrying can add a single hour to his life? 28 “And why do you worry about clothes? See how the lilies of the field grow. They do not labor or spin. 29 Yet I tell you that not even Solomon in all his splendor was dressed like one of these. 30 If that is how God clothes the grass of the field, which is here today and tomorrow is thrown into the fire, will he not much more clothe you, O you of little faith? (NIV)

Did you catch that?  Simple parenting moments.

With little ones, it’s as simple as the birds in the air and the lilies in the field.  These moments of showing the awe-ness of God.  A real true God that created these birds and the splendor of the lilies.  We need to inspire our young ones with these beautiful creations and introduce them to this amazing Creator.

With older children, we can inspire them to take their worries and know that God will take care of them. Why or how? Because of His promises. Look at the question Jesus asked while in Galilee “Are you not much more valuable than they?” So the same God that created the birds of the air, the lilies of the field or the grass that grows, this awesome Creator, thinks of you as more valuable than they!

We must be ready to point our children to the signs of His living presence.  But we can’t always do it in the natural; we have to show them in our circumstances. Remember the question of how can we show them God will take care of them? We show them the God in our circumstance. We show them the promises He gave us as we go through our circumstance. Talk to your children when God answers prayers.  They have to see this amazing God in our “coincidences”. By doing this we inspire them to see a God that is loving and real in our daily situations.

If we inspire our children to see God in His realness, in His amazing ability to love, in His amazing grace, we begin to see how God values motherhood.

What are some ways you inspire your child(ren) to see God?
